ABOUT

Abigail Court an affordable college housing project by the Non Profit College Housing NW. It is a fast-acting solution to the housing crisis, whereby existing building stock is prioritized to respond to the need to shelter people quickly and cost effectively. This development cost significantly less to build than typical affordable housing, and special planning department exceptions were given to expedite permitting.  Although a lot of the building interventions and upgrades are disguised behind ceilings and walls, the design intent was for a seamless conversion of a temporary hotel room into a dignified room for a semester, each having it’s own kitchenette, bathroom and bedroom. The focus for the common areas was on creating amenity spaces for students like study booths, a conference room for group study, a gym, shared laundry and student lounge.
